AI assistant cannot hear the interviewer: audio checks
The call continues and you hear the person, but no question appears in the assistant. Identify where speech stops: call playback, audio receipt, transcription or answer generation.
Separate four cases
| Observation | Start with |
|---|---|
| You cannot hear the participant | Meeting audio connection and the call client’s selected output. |
| They cannot hear you | Mute, microphone selection and meeting-client permissions. |
| You hear them but Vibe has no transcript | Vibe system audio, permissions and an active session. |
| Vibe shows the question but no answer | Session status, connection and the exact error; distinguish generation from capture. |
Test microphone and system audio separately
Connect headphones before the call. Stay quiet while a practice partner speaks, then check their sentence in Vibe. Say your own sentence separately. Receiving only yours confirms microphone input, not incoming call capture.
Raising microphone gain does not replace system audio. Starting screen sharing or sharing tab audio solely for transcription is unnecessary; those controls serve other functions.
Check the correct app’s permissions
On macOS, check Vibe microphone and screen / system audio recording access under Privacy & Security. Names vary by OS version. Zoom, Telemost or browser permissions do not automatically apply to Vibe.
Restart the specific app if the OS requests it, then retest. Windows beta requires its own OS checks. Do not disable protection or reset unrelated app permissions.
Change one condition at a time
Repeat in the existing client first. If needed, change only the headset, output device or meeting client, then repeat both speech checks.
A problem following a Bluetooth headset change is a useful observation, not a confirmed diagnosis. Do not install virtual audio drivers or change network settings at random.
What to send support
- OS, Vibe version, meeting client and version; browser or app.
- Headset, microphone, selected output and any device change after joining.
- What each participant hears and which of the two sentences appear in Vibe.
- Failure time and exact error. Prefer a short synthetic phrase over a real interview recording containing personal information.
